And now Canada!!

After a few days of U.S.F.D.A. warnings and advisory's about the Hydroxycut recall through out the United States, Canada decided to recall the product as well. Iovate Health Sciences Inc., a Canada based company, is the maker and distributor of Hydroxycut. They voluntarily recalled the product through out Canada as well. Only eleven of the fourteen products recalled are sold throughout Canada. Canada has added onto their advisory that anyone currently taking the product should immediately consult their health care professional.
"Health Canada is reviewing the situation in Canada and is currently examining the product formulas, ingredients, dosages, or other causes which may pose a risk to health in relation to the use of Hydroxycut products," the federal department said in the statement.
I think Canada took a better stance on the situation than the United States did. When the recall happened in the U.S. they simply disseminated information, stating the recall and the products involved. Canada elaborated to their citizens, telling them they are investigating the situation and trying to determine the exact cause. It is also necessary to take into consideration the amount of reports the product has received. Only 23 reports have been allegedly linked to Hydroxycut. That is a small number compared to the millions of people who have been using the product for over seven years.
"While this is a small number of reports relative to the many millions of people who have used Hydroxycut products over the years, out of an abundance of caution and because consumer safety is our top priority, we are voluntarily recalling these Hydroxycut-branded products," the statement says.
Personally, I used the product about three years ago. I was in Power lifting in high school, and our coach recommended it. It did give you energy and speed your metabolism. Power lifting is a sport where you have to be in a certain weight class, lift heavy weights, and have a ton of energy. The product helped me in competition, with energy, and with maintaining my weight. I have no complaints about the product, nor does anyone I know that has taken it. It is scary to know there is a possibility of injury or future injury though!

Recall

Hydroxycut is a weight loss product that recently had the majority of their product recalled world wide. The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning to immediately stop any use of the product. I have used this product several times before and know several people that are currently on this product. It caught my attention because it is such a commonly used product. The FDA issued a statement, reporting twenty-three cases that have resulted in serious liver injuries.
"The FDA urges consumers to discontinue use of Hydroxycut products in order to avoid any undue risks. Adverse events are rare, but exist. Consumers should consult a physician or other health care professional if they experience symptoms possibly associated with these products," said Dr. Linda Katz, interim chief medical officer of the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
The FDA has also reported that is not currently aware of the specific ingredient that is causing the liver problems in Hydroxycut users. Only dietary supplements of the Hyrdroxycut brand sold after October 1994 are included in this warning. The supplement speeds up your metabolism, causing you to burn more calories throughout the day.
Hydroxycut is the brand name of some of America’s top-selling weight loss products which are taken by millions of consumers each year. Hydroxycut products are made by Iovate Health Sciences, which has over 750 items sold in more than 70 countries around the world.
Fourteen of the products have been recalled, and investigators are working on the case. The reports of the liver problems began in 2007 when a ninteen-year-old man died, and was reported to the FDA. As the issue becomes more public, more people are beginning to file claims.
